My Aunt Elly was an elementary school teacher in Billings, MT for 4 decades. She was never married and had no children and really saw teaching as her life work.

At the age of 62 years old, she decided to retire. We were very surprised by this decision because of her dedication. She explained that the introduction of computers to the classroom was the turning point in her profession and she did not want to learn how to teach with this technology,

I often think about Aunt Elly as I am starting my retirement journey. Time does not stand still and new theory and interventions are being develop and introduced. New individual and cultural issues are also arising due to AI and CHAT GPT. I really don't want to struggle with making the changes I need to make to be effective. It is time to pass the "torch" to the younger generation.

By the way, Aunt Elly was very happy in retirement. She walked 4 miles a day, created an insanely efficient recipe catalog system, kept close watch of her neighbors and read romance novels.

21 Wednesday to retirement. Thanks for following me on the journey!
